PROJECT MANAGEMENT (ARC 3612 / ARC 3614)
Module Objectives
The teaching objectives of the module are:
1. To appreciate the roles and functions of project participants and the organizational forms which occur.
2. To develop an awareness of the form and influence of leadership in the project process and the relationship
to a project’s success.
3. To understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources.
4. To evaluate the dynamic changes which occur during a project‘s life cycle and the nature of a project’s
success.
5. To understand the means of evaluating success and failure in a project’s performance
Module Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Define project characteristics, objectives, organizations and success.
2. Summarize strategies for the execution of the development process in response to the client’s objectives.
3. Explain the professional roles, duties and responsibilities of the project manager, including the range and
scope of the activities of the project manager within the development process.
4. Compile a framework of personal qualities needed by the project manager in discharging his/her duties.
PROJEC 1 : DEFINING AND DOCUMENTING A MODULAR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
This involves the application of the principles, issues and theories discussed thus far in the Project
Management module, and their application into a simple construction project.
OBJECTIVES:
1 To understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project
resources
2 To appreciate the need for Project Management in a real project environment
3 To understand the basic stages of project management in the construction industry
4 To understand the basic roles of the different consultants in the construction industry
5 To understand the use of "Success Criteria" in evaluating a project.
